Former Disability Action NI CEO and disability rights advocate to lead next chapter for organisation, following retirement of founder Dr Agnes Lunny, OBE.
Positive Futures today announces the appointment of Kevin Doherty MSc, MCIPD as its next Chief Executive Officer. Kevin will join the organisation on 1 October 2026.
One of the most experienced leaders in the disability and voluntary sector, Kevin brings more than 30 years’ experience across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. He spent 16 years as a senior leader including as Chief Executive at Disability Action NI, leading disability rights advocacy at local, national and international level. He has also served as Chief Executive of Rural Support, is currently a Commissioner with the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.

People supported by the organisation were actively involved in the recruitment exercise and the appointment of our new Chief Executive.

Kevin will work closely with Agnes and the Directors team to ensure a smooth handover and ensure that the vital work continues as normal. Agnes will step down as CEO in mid-December, and it is anticipated that she will continue to contribute to Positive Futures in an advisory capacity in due course.
